Led Zeppelin cleared of copyright infringement charge

Phew! We almost had a nervous moment there!

Can you imagine a world where the story of Led Zeppelin‘s finest piece of work was rewritten?

A band called Spirit suggested that Zep’s intro for “Stairway To Heaven” was actually ripped off a piece of work of theirs called “Taurus” from 1968. In fact, they were so sure that this was the case, they took Robert Plant and Jimmy Page to court

Today, however, a jury decided the intros to the songs sound nothing alike. Therefore clearing Led Zeppelin of the charge

I have the admit, the intros sound similar but there are obvious differences too. Listen to both yourself below.

Robert Plant and Jimmy Page released a joint statement, after their charge was cleared.

“We are grateful for the jury’s conscientious service and pleased that it has ruled in our favor, putting to rest questions about the origins of ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and confirming what we have known for 45 years,” they said. “We appreciate our fans’ support, and look forward to putting this legal matter behind us.”

The lawsuit was originally filed in 2014. I have to wonder – why did Spirit wait until 40 years later to call this out anyway?
